Good Friday’s Passion
“As we listen to the reading of John’s Passion this Good Friday, it is important to remember that references to ‘the Jews’ in the Gospel are not to be interpreted as antisemitic. Rather, this term in John’s context referred specifically to certain religious leaders and authorities of the time, not the Jewish people as a whole. The Church rejects any form of prejudice and encourages us to approach this sacred story with respect and understanding, recognising our shared humanity and the message of love and reconciliation at its heart.”
